World Wide Web Workbook A very good site to use for an overview of the World Wide Web. It can be used for middle and upper level students as an interactive tutorial. It explores the basics of using the WWW in a series of webpages called exercises.

 

Phil's Place-Education and Technology K-12 The link can be used for grades K-12 and all subjects. My favorite part is the technology tip. This site has links for curriculum help, parenting resources, and ways to help children use the internet.

 

A chart room for Art teachers This is an ideal place for Art teachers to share ideas and discuss their problem that they face in the classroom and with the general educational system

 

Glossary of computer terms This site is a good quick refernence for computer terms,technology terms and harware definitions. Great for beginners.

 

Dictionary of Smileys An amusing site. This site is a dictionary of smileys. i liked Bozo the clown *:o)

ePals/eTutor This is a large online clasrrom community that can be used by all teachers and their students. It helps connects the student with their teachers.


Quadratic Equation Solver This website looks like a good place for students to do online problem solving for quadratic equations.


ePals/eTutor A tutor site for Eng., science, and math with tutoring offered approximately 5 days a week, 3 hrs per day at a cost of $39.99 per month. Certified teachers can send in resumes.


ePals/eTutor ePALS/eTutor is a virtual classroom designed to connect real teachers and students from their home, school or anywhere there is Internet access.Great for all grades and ESOL students to connect with students and teachers who speak their primary langauge


How to set-up home networks this site walks you through the steps of how to set-up home networks and be able to communicate with others on the network. there are many other features to this site that you can learn about how the internet system works.


An Introduction to Usenet News The information is the same as the site listed in our tools section "overview of Usenet". I found this site much easier to read due to the format and font style of the site.


History of the Internet, Internet for Historians This site is a definitive history of computers from Arpanet to the World Wide Web. It also discusses the history of e-mail and search engines.


Math.com This website looks like a very useful site for math tutorials in all subject areas of mathematics. It is very easy to use, and would be helpful in giving students another tool for learning. I really liked it.


Netiquette This is a great website. It gives rules for the internet and e-mail.


Saving Software Step by step information on how to save items off the internet.


Accessing Shareware/archival items Information on accessing shareware and archival items.


Beginners' Central, a Users Guide to the Internet A well organized beginners web site about using the Internet. Structured in a chapter by chapter sequence. Some information may be outdated since its copyright is from 1999.


Offers simple, subject divided directory, for high school students to use for research A great resource for web sites for different subject areas including math, history, science, and foreign language, although, no links for PE. Can also be linked to other search engines.

Skewl Sites - The Best in Educational Websites Here is an online site that teachers can use for most any subject. You must subscribe to be a member so that you can use this site. The site contains the following information: Fine Arts, Fun and Games, Health, PE, Science, Math, Social Studies, Online Schools, Special Days, Teacher Resources and other...


Intercultural E-mail Classroom Connections A website for teachers who would like connect their classrooms to classrooms in other countries. You can be linked with other classes based on grade, language, subject area, etc.


TKI - Websites for Teachers: This websites gives links to other websites that can be used for ESOL students. There are several sites to help the foreign student learn to speak and write the English language.


Hobbes' Internet Timeline This site is a history of the internet laid out in a timeline. It begins in the 1950's and continues through today.

Strategies for Teaching in Moospaces A very helpful website if you plan on teaching mainly college level students. It provides intructions for how to teach in a Moo.


Elementary Educators About.com Chat This is a chat room that is part of a whole web site for K6 teachers. There are links for K12 as well. I was on the chat site for about 20 minutes, and teachers were giving the names of useful websites, publications, etc based on questions asked on the site. I think this could be quite useful if you had a specific question, and wanted a lot of diverse feedback.


Introduction to Geometry This website includes four lessons in Geometry titled, Basics, Introduction to Proofs, Graphing, and Triangles. It is a great site to send students to work on their skills in Geometry. There is an explanation on each topic, a quiz,and answers. I am looking forward to using this website with the students in my classes who need extra help.


Diversity University Information useful to first time MOO users. Contains commands and explanations.


Rachel's Super Moo List This page has links to over 150 educational moos, including ESOL, social work, math, science, English, etc. If you can use MOO's this looks like a great site.


Grant Writing A chat room to discuss and learn more about grant writing.


Volleyball for all ages and levels Teachers, coaches, and players can talk about the game of volleyball. You have chat opitions, person-to-person, find memebers, and can ignore members. You can find information on drills, plays, and camps & clinics on this web site.


District 25 Communication - Arlington Heights This is an example of a website where a school district or a school can communicate with parents and others about their educational philosophy, financial information, employment opportunities, calendar of events, lunch menu or other.


Educational Chat Rooms and Mailing Lists This is a site that lists a wide variety of educational chat rooms as well as mailing lists. It is updated on a regular basis with new links.


What is a Moo? This gave a good definition and example of a Moo.


Quick Math, Automatic Math Solutions This is a good site for teaching concepts of graphing in Algebra II. I can use it to develop test questions. It covers other in topics in Algebea I and II as well as topics in Calculus. I think it will be very useful.


math tutorials it is an excellent site for students to get online help with their math. they can do a variety of things. great math site.


Educational Chat Rooms Here is an area that has links such as: 1) Link for Teachers to talk about ways that technology can be used in the classroom. 2) There is a link for a parent discussion group called "Parent Soup". Where parents can talk about educational issues (ADD/Gifted)related to their children. 3) There is a link for English as a second language area too.


Join and Educational Mail List Here is a list of educational mailing lists that you can join. Also, it provide chat rooms and message boards that you can use as well.


Surfing the Net with Kids: Monitored Chat Rooms This site has a list of several chat rooms for kids. Each site is monitored by an adult at all times and has a list of rules that must be followed.


Teacher connections This site is a great chat arena for k-12 teachers to communicate about teaching styles, new strategies and other resources.


Kim Zern paper This is a great chat arena for k-12 teachers to share ideas, discuss teaching styles and new learning strategies.


Vocabulary Bingo This site offers many different games and ideas to use in preparing lesson plans.


Teacher's Net A great site for all teachers. You will find chatboards, support, encouragement, motivational ideas, and even an "Ask the Psychologist" section.


Teachers.net A website for all teachers in elementary through high school. You can talk to other teachers any time of the day and night to get answers to problems, questions, or requests or just to talk about the day. It also provides lessons and even job postings and information.


Chat Boards for Teachers This is an excellent chat board that includes all grades and subject matter.


Chat boards for Teachers I really enjoyed this particular website. It offers a variety of things to talk about with other teachers from class lessons to humor in the classroom. This is a website that I will definitely use.


Teaching.com Ednow.com, the premier Web portal for teachers, librarians, and administrators, provides access to current education news and trends, lesson plans, curriculum resources, book reviews, and more.


teaching.com Once registered (for free) teachers can exchange ideas and support with each other at the on-line community Teacher Talk. Mighty Mentors is also a great place to communicate with other educational professionals for advice. This site has many free services that are worth exploring.


Triathlon Discussion Forum This is one my favorite discussion boards for triathlets. Everyone needs a release after they leave school and since I teach PE working out and being active is part of my life style. I can get information on training and races and just talk to people with the same interset as myself.

Lesson Plans Lots of online lesson plans for all ages, plus links to other education topics


Mathematics Resources The conics Section Course link from this website is a fabulous site to reinforce the teaching of Conic Sections to students in Algebra II. There are interactive modules for students to do that will increase their understanding of various aspects of different conic equations and how they relate to graphing.


BJ Pinchbeck's Homework Helper This is a great site created by a 15 year old boy. It has homework links for children as well as things for teachers and parents.


Kids Click This is a site for students to use to gather information on a wealth of subjects. Tgis site was created by a group of librarians and is updated frequently.


Teacher First This site is great and very orderly. Good for any teacher 1-12 grades.


Aplusmath.com This website has online flashcards that give immediate results of your answers for addition, subtraction.... problems. It has some math games on it as well. This would be a great center for math.


Ask ERIC Lessons Plans This site includes many lesson plans submitted and written by teachers for all subjects and grade levels.


Ask Eric Lesson Plans This is a wonderful resource with over 2000 lesson plans from the U.S. as well as the world. You will find lessn plans for science, math , language arts,foreign languages, social studies,etc...The lesson plans are filed by grade levels making it even easier to find.


ENC Focus Magazine Meta search engines are introduced here which will explain how we can more effectively use an engine to search many other search engines all at once.


Elem. School Link This is a school web site that has many different areas for elem. teachers and students. Can find helpful links for class projects and curriculum ideas.


Funschool A great wesite for kids, parents and teachers. There are several games, resources, links, and other interesting things for kids. You can specify which age group, and it will take you to appropriate activities.


Georgia Learning Connections This site is great for Georgia teachers. It integrates the QCC standards, lesson plans, Web resources, and student assessments.


Grand Illusions A great ice breaker activities. This site has optical illusions, scientific toys, visual effects, and funny stories. A wonderful assortment of attention geeting tricks to start the class!


math.com Math practice and games at every level.This site has everything from test prepartation exercises to tables on all the formulas and cool math tools.


Preschool Education: Discover the Fun in Learning A super resource for the preschool educator. It includes many classroom ideas and themes, an ask the preschool teacher site, message board, along with free printables and coloring pages.


Junie B.Jones This is the web site for the Junie B.Jones children's book series. My class is really "into" Junie B. Jones. This is a great site to get kids interested in reading. There are lonks from this page back to Random House. Once there, you can find other series and authors.


SATMath.com This is an on-line SAT prep course complete with tutorials, quizzes, and drill tests. While this course costs $20 per month, there is a free area which can be explored and seems to be a good example of what students will see on the math portion of the SAT.


Physical Education K-12 A great link for PE teachers but has great ideas for classroom teachers for recess. This site has many ideas for Field Day activities.


Welcome to Squigly's Playhouse This website has pencil puzzles, games, crafts,post cards and other things that teachers use now and then to help make class a little more interesting.


Lesson Plans When I visited this particular website, I found various lesson plans on just about every subject. this seems to be a great website.


Scholastic This website offers a wide variety of lesson plans as well as reproducibles to go with the lessons.


Teachersfirst A web site with lesson plans and web resources grouped by subject and grade level.


k12.ed.math newsgroup website This is a website for parents and teachers to post questions relating to a variety of math levels, curriculums, and other issues.


Children's Authors & Illustrators on the Web The Children's Literature Web Guide's page for authors and illustrators on the Web. A good resource to use when trying to contact an author for an authors study in your class. The children would love to be able to learn about them and also see a picture if one was not available on the book jacket.


Uncle Sam for Kids--corrected address This site has great resources for Social Studies teachers.

Cyber sleuth This site is good for 1st-12th grades to aid in resaerch and help with homework. There are many catergories from which to chose.


CyberSleuth Kids A easy to use internet search guide for K-12 students. It included clip-art, fun and games along with many "cool" sites


Cyber sleuth This site is a good location for students 1st-12th grades to do researchand to aid with homework assisgnments. I like that all of the sites on Kids Search Engines are filtered by human beings to decided what might be objectionable material for children.


How to Choose a Search Engine A user friendly chart is provided by the University at Albany Libraries utllizing two collumns: "If You Want" and "Choose" depending on your needs. Separate charts exist for names, titles, etc., search logic, search options search results, and specialty searches.


High School Math Center This is a great Web Site for high school math students to further investigate any questions they may have on a particular math topic. There are also links for other levels of math, so it is a good resource for any math teacher to use with their students.


Search Engine Features For Searchers I printed the "Search Engine Math Commands" chart I found in the Search Engine Watch, web searching tips. At a glance you can tell where to use searching commands as +,-,"", etc.


Kids Search Engines A list of different search engines for kids to use that are safe.


Search engine Math This is a great site with articles,tutorials and resources to help you use the search engines to find what you are looking for. i really liked search engine math which is like boolean for dummies!


Search Engine Watch Learn how to search better and how major search engines work from a searcher's perspective. Find major search engines, meta search engines,news search engines and more. The kids search engines are designed primarily to serve the needs of children, either in focus, or by filtering out sites that some parents and teachers might find inappropriate for kids. These usually include sites that deal with explicit sexual matters, porn sites, violence, hate speech, gambling and drug use.


KidsClick This site is a search engine for kids. It was created by librarians. There are some lesson plans also.


Ask Jeeves For Kids This search engine allows you to ask a question, then it supplies you with a variety of sites that may or may not answer your question. I like the format because it will automatically give you choices that let you narrow your search. It is very easy to use, and even offers kids direct links for subject area homework or research help.

Library The website was listed under the kid's search engines. If you go under the teacher's door, you will find information on different subjects as well as worksheets. There is also informationfor counselors, family, school nurse, etc.


Websites for Kids and Parents This particular website offers a wide variety of information for kids and their families from geneaology to school fundraisers. The geanealogy search can help students build their own family trees.


Variety of web sites for grades K-5th This web pages has many links to curriculum ideas for social studies, science, and math. Teacher and student links are posted to this site with my favorite being School House Rocks!!


Web Search Engines This site takes you to FAQ's about the web and web searching. It has very helpful information about different directories and other things to be aware of when conducting searches.


Linkopedia:Kids Sites A list of Web-sites suitable for children 3 to 10. All links have been reviewed and are considered kid safe sites.


General Teacher Resource Website This has links that support teacher instruction in Science Math, Lessons... It also gives some educational internet instructions. There is a fun for kids area and general resource for teacher area.


Fibonacci Numbers and the Golden Section This web page offers a wealth of information on Fibonacci Numbers which is a facinating topic in mathematics. The first link to the introductory page very good. Seeing math in nature is great for students. This is a wonderful resource for all math teachers (grades 1 - 12).


Physical Education Web Site This is geared not only to PE teachers but for classroom teachers as. Classroom teachers can get ideas for recess and to getting equimpent for there outdoor activites. As for PE teachers this gives you many links for assessment and lesson plan ideas.


Kids Search Engine An excellent site to go to find safe places for kids to find information.


Teachology:Web Portal for Educators A great directory of web sites for teachers and educators.TeAch-nology.com offers teachers FREE access to lesson plans, printable worksheets, reviewed web sites, rubrics, educational games, teaching tips, advice from expert teachers, current education news, teacher downloads, web quests, and teacher tools for creating exciting classroom instruction.


Webmaster Central Resources: Search Queries This website has the following search engines: Infotiger(real time search words), Search engine watch, Word tracker,webcrawler and metaspy (real time search engine). This website gives you ideas about what queries to search for on each search engine.


Searching and Researching on the Internet and the WWW This website gives definitions or explainations for web searching: directories, browser essentials, search strategies for search engines, and gives web addresses for Altavista, Google, Hotbot, Lycos, special search engines,dogpile, fossick, ixquick, metacrawler, search, and vivismo websites.


Yahooligans Very easy search engine for kids. Also has a variety of games, links, and educational resources.


World History Site Outlines, lectures, links, to all periods in world history. Useful for students and teachers


National Geographic Great site for all ages. Maps of anywhere, they just posted a national geography quiz there. Great classroom tool

Great Sites This site is for parents, teachers, and kids. There is a list of over 700 sites that have been evaluated by the Great Web Sites Committee.


EPS WWW Resources Archive: Evaluating Educational Technology This website gives links for the discussion about accuracy issues related to website information and using this information to create a virtual library. Entitled "Criteria for evaluation of Internet Information".


Exercise on Web Evaluation for K-12 I wanted to find a site that was kid friendly, but I found that to be difficult. This web site does give you many opitions to choose from. I like to be able to have some other options to look at to see how other people evaluate the same site.

Critical evaluation of resources This is a good source to help you determine what information you have gathered on the internet is suitable for your topic. It is a a good starting point for upper middle to high school students to use to determine what types of sources are appropriate.

Math2.org Formerly "Daves's Math Tables" This site has links to various topics in mathematics from General Math to Calculus and beyond. It is a good resource for students to gain a better understanding of various topics in math. It also has links to some other great math websites.


Evaluating Internet-based Information This site discusses giving students goal based assignments verses broad based topics so that you will receive an authentic thought produced paper by the student as opposed to a simple cut and paste report. The site also has a quick check list to evaluate the information found on the internet.


Meridian This website is for those that teach middle school students. It offers book exerpts,research findings,articles, etc.This seems to be aa very helful website.


The Quality Information Checklist Real simple tool for late elementary and up to help determine usefulness of a website.


Web Evaluation for Secondar Grades Chekc list for secondary grades to evaluate usefulness of a site. Simple, easy to use. Can use with research papers as part of the assignment.


Children's Literature Web Guide This site lists resources related to books for children. There are also resources for teachers, parents, storytellers, writers, and illustrators.


VirtualSalt This site had lengthy information on evaluating a web site; but, what I liked about it were the sections on "Indicators of a lack of": credibility, accuracy, reasonableness, and support.
