A
Teacher's Guide to the Internet is an introduction to the Internet for
k12 teachers. Topics
covered include Internet navigational tools, online teaching tools,
online communication,
web searching, and classroom related web sites such as the Georgia
QCC's. and the
Georgia Learning Connections.

This class is
organized into
six sections and while students may work on this class at their own
pace, they
may find the schedule of completing one section per week to be helpful
in managing
their time.
- Section
One
- Orientation to
the requirements
of the class and class tools. We'll review the syllabus and post
introductions
to the class webboard. The Link Share script will be demonstrated.
We'll look
at how to set up bookmarks and favorites on the students' web
browsers.
- Section
Two
- Introduction to
the Internet,
including the Primary Tools of the Internet. A brief explanation of
what these
major tools are with examples of how they can be used in the K12
environment.

- Communication
and Community
Methods that can be used to support professional development and to
communicate
with parents and administration. Consider forging a sense of community
online
for teachers, students and their families. Mailing Lists, Web boards,
Chat rooms
(for educational purposes of course! ;-)

- The best
resources available
on the Internet. The Georgia Learning Connections for lesson plans,
Galileo for
research and myriad links for use in the classroom and for
professional development.

Five
- How to search
the Internet
for more resources. Search strategies and a lab to guide you through
the steps
of a search.
- Section
Six
- How to evaluate
what you
find on the Internet.
